Laurent Boulangerie Patisserie

Many moons ago when I was a wee university student, I planned trips to visit different exhibitions in faraway places. Trips to Melbourne happened about twice a year, and on one of those magical trips I discovered this little Melbournian institution. I was planning a catch up with a friend who lived in Melbourne at the time and she suggested coffee and french donuts at Laurent. I was all ears, as I had only recently returned from a trip to Paris, and needed to fill a donut shaped void in my tummy.

Since then, any time I happen to be passing through the Melbourne CBD on foot, I always make it a point stop in for a coffee and something sweet for afternoon tea. On a recent trip to Melbourne, I visited Laurent with my mother in law Honor who is gluten intolerant. To our surprise, there were multiple options that were flour free, making her decision a lot more difficult. This difficult decision making was very much welcomed by Honor and I considering many gluten intolerant sweet eaters are stuck with run-of-the-mill, dry, bland, loveless orange and almond let downs.

Well, not here.Β Honor enjoyed a dessert that was some form of layered mouse deliciousness, gorgeously finished with glossy dark chocolate, and topped with macarons - yes, wheat free... I enjoyed my humble french raspberry donut and by God, I was satisfied.
