Fraser Place Melbourne

I love that feeling of mystery that comes with waking up in another city. You know the one - for a sleepy moment in time you forget where you are, and within  milliseconds of that intense feeling of confusion comes the realisation that you're not at home. This year, I've experienced that feeling on a few occasions, and one of them was a few short weeks ago during a one night stay at Fraser Place Melbourne.

Melbourne is not typically a city that I'd book a hotel in, especially because I have family there. But this wasn't always the case. Prior to marrying into a Melbourne based family, my experiences of Melbourne were completely different to the ones I've become used to in recent years, and this recent stay at Fraser Place reminded me why I used to plan regular visits. Without sounding like a Victorian advertorial campaign, Melbourne boasts an undeniable air of intrigue that's obvious from the moment you arrive in the city.

Fraser Place is located in a quiet alleyway a short distance away from noise of the city centre, and in my opinion, an ideal place to be when staying in Melbourne. Close enough to walk to some seriously incredible bars and cafes, and far enough that a night sleep is uninterrupted by street noise. More than just a run of the mill hotel room, the property is comprised of 112 serviced apartments and each room offers a kitchenette as well as dedicated living and dining spaces making it ideal for both business and leisure travellers - yes, that includes complimentary wifi. Finish that with a thoughtful hand written welcome note, good chocolate, bottled water and L'Occitane products in the bathroom - and if you're balling, book the executive suite for the extra touch of the Nespresso machine. The closest thing to a personal barista at your wonderfully comfortable bedside.

The walls are dressed with an eclectic mix of art - from contemporary photos of the Melbourne city street scape, macro photography of what looked like coloured pick up sticks, to larger than life Aboriginal Art that pays homage to Australia's roots in Aboriginal spirituality. I loved how the artistic story on the walls connected with similar dot painted prints on the bed cushions. One thing I didn't get the chance to do was take an early morning coffee up to the roof top, but there's always next time I guess...

Over the course of my short but sweet stay, the good folks at Fraser Place took us on a delicious journey into the heart of the Melbourne sweet life, and I'll share more about that in my next post. But if my experience was anything to go by, I couldn't let the opportunity pass without sharing an incredible promotion especially for the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival from 7-14 December 2014.

The Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival is highlighting the work of female jazz composers, jazz band leaders, arrangers and instrumentalists. It's a chance for Melbourne to showcase female jazz talent from around the globe and celebrate the important contribution and investment such talented women make to the cultural identity of Australia.

During the festival guests can book a Studio Deluxe room for $149 or Studio Executive room for $169. Your stay will also include a 2 for 1 entry voucher into the Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club over the duration of the festival. Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club is the official host venue of the Festival, and located only a one minute walk from Fraser Place Melbourne. Yes, one minute as in 60 seconds.

Stylish, clean modern finishes, great amenities and a perfect location, a stay at Fraser Place was just what I needed to reignite the intrigue that had me coming back to Melbourne, over and over again.
